Emergency Evacuation Drill Held at Majura Gate Interchange Station
SMRL conducts a comprehensive emergency evacuation drill at Majura Gate interchange station with NDRF, Surat Fire Brigade, and 600 volunteers ahead of commercial launch.
As part of pre-launch safety preparedness, SMRL conducted a comprehensive emergency evacuation drill at Majura Gate — the busiest and most complex station in the Phase 1 network, serving both Red and Green Lines.
The drill involved over 600 volunteers simulating peak-hour passenger loads, alongside NDRF rescue teams, Surat Fire Brigade, and Surat Police. Scenarios simulated included fire emergency, medical emergency, power failure, platform overcrowding, and a security threat.
All 600 simulated passengers were safely evacuated from the station in 4 minutes 32 seconds — well within the mandatory 6-minute target. NDRF teams tested access protocols for both the elevated Red Line and underground Green Line sections of the station.
SMRL has committed to conducting similar drills at all major stations before commercial launch and annually thereafter, with reports submitted as part of the safety certification documentation.
