Phase 2 Airport Connector DPR Submitted for Cabinet Approval

Published on: Friday, 12 December 2025By SMRL Planning Division

SMRL and GMRC finalise the Detailed Project Report for the Phase 2 Airport Connector and a proposed Saroli–Antroli extension linking Surat Metro to the upcoming Bullet Train station.

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) and Surat Metro Rail Limited (SMRL) have finalised and submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Phase 2's Airport Connector corridor, along with a proposed 4.4 km extension from Saroli to Antroli.

The Saroli–Antroli extension would add three new stations — Kalpataru, Ambaba College, and Surat HSR — providing a direct link between the Surat Metro network and the upcoming Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train station. The estimated cost of this extension is approximately ₹1,400 crore.

Phase 2 as a whole, covering the Airport Connector, Vesu Extension, and Pal Extension, was approved in principle by the Union Cabinet in December 2024. The newly submitted DPR sets out detailed alignment, station design, and cost estimates required for final construction approval.

'Connecting the metro to the bullet train corridor and the airport will make Surat Metro a true multi-modal transit backbone for the city,' said a GMRC planning official. Cabinet approval for construction is currently awaited, with civil works expected to begin after the Phase 1 priority section opens.
